Upper East Side at a Glance

Once known as the Silk Stocking District, The Upper East Side is an affluent and lively neighborhood on the north east of Manhattan. Featuring modern high-class high rises, plus plenty of centuries-old brick buildings, this neighborhood is one of the most highly sought after in the entire city. The Upper East Side’s many sub-neighborhoods like Lenox Hill, Carnegie Hill, Yorkville, and Spanish Harlem (commonly known as El Barrio or East Harlem) each bring their own architectural and cultural styles. Doctors, lawyers, accountants and other white collar professionals often host their offices in the Upper East Side, where there are many 2nd floor, 3rd floor, and more upper-level commercial spaces in pre-war buildings. Retail is another huge draw of the Upper East Side, so much so, that having a retail store in the UES is something of a badge of honor for a brand. The Upper East Side has long been known as one of the most affluent NYC hoods, but nowadays it’s where New Yorkers move to get more space, where there’s still pockets of affordable living intermingled with designer shops and luxury retailers.
