Sunnyvale historically was an agricultural town, giving way to heavy defense industries in the early part of the 20th century. Largely lead by the city's proximity to Moffett Federal Airfield and the opening of aircraft manufacturer, Lockheed's new facility in the city. Sunnyvale, like many of its Silicon Valley neighbors, is now at the epicenter of the technology industry. Giants like Advance Micro Devices (AMD), and Juniper Networks all set up their headquarters in Sunnyvale.
Sunnyvale lies along 101 and 280 and is intersected by El Camino Real. Caltrain serves the city of Sunnyvale at Sunnyvale Station and Lawrence Station. Sunnyvale is neighbored to the west by Mountain View and Los Altos. To Sunnyvale's east lies Santa Clara and San Jose. Cupertino is located south of and across the 280 from Sunnyvale.
