We received a message after booking that the front desk person experienced an emergency and had to leave unexpectedly but that someone would be there by noon. I certainly understand that emergencies happened, and I appreciate the message. We delayed our arrival so that we would arrive after 12 pm. We arrived close to 12:30 pm, and there was no one at the front desk. We called the number provided and explained our situation (because we had an important call scheduled for 2 pm), and the person (Amanda, I believe) that I spoke to was friendly and immediately provided the solution to use the conference room. I was relieved and happy.
Unfortunately, there must have been a breakdown in communication because the person who did arrive to staff the front desk was extremely rude. During our call, she stopped outside the conference room, looked in, and made such a rude face as if to suggest that we should not be there. All of this during an important business meeting. And when we left, she looked at us but didn't acknowledge us verbally. Just looked at us and then went back to her conversation with someone that was at the desk.
I am a Black professional who travels the country and uses LiquidSpace to book meeting spaces often. I have never felt so unwelcomed and poorly treated. And, I don't believe that she would have treated non-Black clients with this attitude. I can say this with certainty because when I called to complain, she answered the call and when I asked why she was so rude, she laughed it off, gave me another number to call, gave a half-baked apology, and explained that I misunderstood, and then greeted other guests in the waiting area with the professional courtesy and assistance that was severely lacking while we were there (all while on the phone with me) only to rush me off the phone.
Needless to say, I won't be using this space in the future, nor will I recommend or refer this space to my business colleagues.
I hope you are working with your staff on the importance of welcoming all guests and treating everyone with courteous and respect.
