NoMad at a Glance

NoMad has become the new cinder-block neighborhood of New York. Emerging from a long sleep-deprived, immigrant and wholesale stores beginning, it has become the district where cool hotels cater to even hipper guests and the reservation books of top restaurants burn red hot. The NoMad (North of Madison Square) neighborhood appeared in an article in The New York Times in 1999. From that moment on and thanks to the remodeling of the park, which holds the same name, the streets of this neighborhood have filled with hotels, restaurants and local fashion. As happened years ago with SoHo, NYC's NoMad reinvented itself as a new meeting place between creativity and artists. Modern, creative professionals, children of the rich and the wannabes have invaded this district of Manhattan. For some years, this grid of streets around Madison Park and the famous Flatiron Building have embodied the postmodern trend. It may not be as beautiful as other neighborhoods but pay attention to the details of the facades and the shops because they captivate with their rebelliousness and daring looks. The gentrification of this area between Broadway and Park Avenue seems to have begun in 2009 with the opening of Ace Hotel located at 20 W 29th Street, whose lobby is a cocktail bar. It is also home to one of the restaurants that is gaining a global following: the retro bistro - The Breslin. New Yorkers flock to John Dory Oyster Bar at 1196 Broadway to get good oysters and to be seen, just don't expect this restaurant, or any for that matter, in NoMad to be cheap. Another of the pillars that have pushed the neighborhood is NoMad Hotel at 1170 Broadway, with nineteenth-century interiors and refills, but all with gusto. The chic atmosphere continues through establishments like Eleven Madison Park a restaurant by chef David Humm, who is considered one of the best chefs in the United States.
